Frank SartorFrank Sartor was a City of Sydney councillor from 1984 and Lord Mayor from September 1991. He was the first independent Lord Mayor of Sydney for 80 years.

During his time as Lord Mayor, central Sydney underwent some of the most dramatic changes in its 210 year history. He introduced a blueprint to transform the CBD into a diverse and cosmopolitan 24-hour city, and played a key role in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Plans to upgrade the city were accelerated, with infrastructure, hotels and improved facilities needed for hundreds of thousands of visitors who descended on Sydney in September 2000.

As Lord Mayor, Frank Sartor’s Living City program resulted in more than $8 billion in public and private sector investment, a dramatic increase in central Sydney’s residential population, and a dramatic drop in city crime.

Sartor was also instrumental in new cultural facilities such as a state-of-the-art Recital Hall, the restoration of the Capitol Theatre as the first class Lyric Theatre and the redevelopment of Customs House.

In November 2002, Frank Sartor was preselected as the Labor candidate for the seat of Rockdale for the 2003 State Election. In March 2003 he was elected as the State Member for Rockdale and later was chosen to be part of the Premiers Cabinet.

Currently, Frank Sartor is the Minister for Planning, Minister for Science and Medical Research, Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer), and Minister for Redfern Waterloo Authority.
