The Conservation Department plays an important role in providing advice to individuals and all levels of Government and assessing applications for development across NSW. The Conservation Department provides advice to owners, community groups and local and State government on proposed schemes, development applications, conservation management plans and policy issues. The Conservation Department and members of specialist committees also represent the Trust on a number of Government and Community committees such as the RTA, SRA, NSW Health, Heritage Council, Joint Committee Rookwood Necropolis.
Members of staff or advisory committees may attend site visits and meetings on behalf of the Trust.
The National Trust Conservation Department lobbies local councils, government agencies and developers, seeking to prevent demolition or modify redevelopment proposals that threaten significant places and give evidence in the Land and Environment Court.
