Promoting your Event
In submitting your event as part of the National Trust Festival, it is important to acknowledge the National Trust in all event copy, publicity, printing and signage. Below are a few guidelines on how to use the logo for any advertising, banners or printed material that you may produce for the National Trust Festival 2008.
Guidelines for using the National Trust Logo:

  • All wording for events should include reference to the ‘National Trust Festival 2008’, include this year’s tag line: ‘Our Place’ and/or have your organisation name inserted along side the host organisation, the National Trust e.g. Willoughby City Council in conjunction with the National Trust
  • The National Trust logo should appear alongside the participating organisation logo.
  • The National Trust logo must be printed in Green (PMS 349) or in Black and White.
  • The National Trust logo must be used in its entirety and cannot be altered in any way.

The following logo format and images are available to download;

Public Relations and Advertising

The National Trust will send general Festival media releases to all local newspapers state-wide, however in addition, local coverage and advertising should be taken on by your organisation.

Template media releases which can be altered to contain specific details relating to your event/s will be sent out in February along with the Festival Programs and posters to all event contributors.  These public relations tools can also be downloaded on the Media Release page.

If you have any images / photos that relate to your planned event please email or send these to Kylie Westaway, the Festival Organiser making clear reference to your event as these can be used for publicity purposes in the lead-up to the Festival and add to your exposure.

Event Management

Your event needs to be organised and staffed by you in a professional and safe manner.  Some things to think about include;

  • Facilities, resources and support you may need – often local council or other community organisations may be willing to assist with your needs or may be interested in partnering with you for your planned event
  • Event budget
  • Ticketing/gold coin donation options
  • Additional support – unfortunately as a not-for-profit organisation, the National Trust is unable to assist in the funding of individual events staged for the Heritage Festival and recommends obtaining in-kind support where possible, sponsors and government grants.
  • Event publicity and marketing
  • Wet weather and other contingency plans including a risk assessment
  • Insurance - Public Liability Insurance for your event should be covered under the insurance of the host organisation with a recommended minimum of $10 million cover for any one event.  Individuals can take out similar cover, although please note that this is not generally included in normal public liability cover under general householder policies.

The National Trust cannot unfortunately personally cover external events under their Public Liability Insurance.  The organisation’s current policy should be referred to in order to verify cover.
Treasury has advised that if a not for profit organisation is having difficulty obtaining public liability insurance or a renewal, they can contact the following organisations for assistance:

  • Insurance Council of Australia (Insurance Enquiries and Complaints) on 1300363683 or www.ica.com.au
  • Community Care Underwriting Agency (a joint venture between Allianz Australia, NRMA Insurance and QBE) who can be contacted on 1800023456 or www.community-care.com.au
  • Event evaluation – particularly if your event is an anticipated annual activity, it is always a good idea to document the event running, attendance, audience etc for the future success of the event and even as documentation to accompany any sponsor requests etc.

In ensuring the future success of the National Trust Festival, we appreciate any feedback, be it positive or negative! In receiving your feedback, we can ensure the Festival continues to grow and succeed in its aims and support to the community upon which this initiative is based.
In May, all festival organisers will be sent their festival participation certificates as well as a Festival Evaluation Form which will be available to download shortly.
