This National Trust listed building has a long heritage in Lake Macquarie. Built in 1887 to service holiday makers, the pub has been a central focus of the area. This display shows how the hotel was the start of the development of Toronto from mission to farm to town, now the major township on the western shores of beautiful Lake Macquarie. Leeton was designed in 1914 by Walter Burley Griffin as the administrative centre of the newly created Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. As a result, the town has a rich heritage of buildings of the period 1914 to the 1930's including many fine examples of the art deco style. Events include Art Deco Ball, Twilight Jazz concerts, Silent movies with organ player at the Roxy. Also Heritage walks and Open House at prominent buildings. The Festival will culminate with a formal launch of a new brochure on Leeton's Art Deco heritage and presentation of awards for heritage excellence to local businesses and individuals at a Heritage Dinner.
