Brief Overview(top)

Ida's Quest is designed for primary school students living in Central Western NSW who are learning about their local history.

The content and approach of the website is devised to assist teachers of Stage 2 and 3 students (8 - 12 year olds) for Human Society and Its Environment in the content area of Change and Continuity and Environments.

Federation and the value of heritage and conservation are explored via a narrative journey undertaken by a young girl to her grandfather's place in and around Bathurst in 1901. The concept engages young learners in an exploratory approach to history by asking them to solve six riddles Ida's grandfather has set for her as part of her quest.

Although the site is designed for children there is plenty of useful and interesting information on the history of Bathurst and the surrounding district for learners of any age.

Please Note
This website contains visual depictions of Indigenous Australians who are now deceased which may cause distress to some people.

Concept & Structure(top)

'Ida's Quest' is devised around the Traill/Lee/Kite Heritage and the origins of 'Miss Traill's House', a National Trust property in Russell Street, Bathurst. Although the narrative has been created, the people, places and objects are historically accurate.

The website structure has 3 levels:

1. The Story - a 5 day journey undertaken by Ida Traill through the Bathurst region in 1901.

2. Interpretive information on sites, objects and people including pre-1901, 1901 and present day.

3. Educational activities - including offline and online activities for 8 - 12 year olds to build on their appreciation of heritage and history.
