Sunday
22 April from 10.00am.
Meet at George Street,
Marulan. Dress to the theme of 1901
Variety of exciting events focusing on the main street, George Street, in
Marulan, an important geographical merging point in the development of The
Great South Road. Roads and transport have been vital for the town’s viability,
and still are today. A fantastic day including: |
| |
- Aboriginal Welcome
Ceremony
- Horse and Cart:
recreate the atmosphere of 1901 with horse and cart events including
an endurance ride linking heritage sites such as Lockyersleigh. Lockyersleigh
was the former home of Major Lockyer, the predecessor to Sir Thomas
Mitchell, who built The Great South Road between Sutton Forest and Bungonia.
- Follow the sheep
as they are mustered through town and watch demonstrations of early
shearing methods.
- Visit heritage
sites, including the Towrang Stockade, Glenrock Station, former home
of Hamilton Hume’s sister, Isabella Barber, and the National Trust property,
Riversdale. Riversdale was built as a coaching inn and residence in
1840, and is a fine example of a well-restored, single-storey colonial
Georgian bungalow which houses an outstanding collection of colonial
furniture, arts and crafts.
- Get on the move
with veteran cars, bikes, trucks and trains.
- Purchase your
lunch in Tony Onion’s Park, provided by the Country Women’s Association
and Marulan local businesses.
