National Trust Heritage Festival 2004

Photographic Competition
"Building Connections"

"Day Break"
Photographer: James Ghata

Artist’s Statement: It is hard not to think about our pioneer past in the mountains. I have been driving past this village for years and many times have romanticised about stepping back in time and making a cottage such as this my home. To me the cottage reflects the simplicity and hardships that must have been encountered in these early years.

The prize was a $1500 gift voucher from Georges Electronics which was presented at the launch of the Exhibition of Finalists at Trust property Lindesay at Darling Point

James is a young photographer from the Springwood area, who has been involved in photography for over 7 years. He attended the presentation with many of his family, including his grandfather who is the figure in the winning photo, taken at Little Hartley.

He had already been proclaimed judge's choice in the Norman Lindsay Gallery regional competition for the theme of Dream Homes - special Blue Mountains homes.

David Liddle the competition judge selected the winner for its print quality, connection to the subject
or theme, imaginative elements, technical ability and overall look.
