Grossmann House includes different histories that are closely linked to the development of the merchant class in regional NSW in the mid 1800s and to the growth of public education for girls in the early 20th century.

With different stories to tell, the Butlers and Blackboards program looks at changes in the community, education and family life and is discovery-based and student-focussed.

Students can:

UNDERTAKE a simple role-play that explores the domestic lives of masters and servants

MAKE connections between the house history and the history of Maitland.

ANALYSE objects, images and documents to jointly construct the stories of the house.

OBSERVE change over time in the historic streetscape during a heritage walk.
